How to iron a button-up shirt
Here are the steps for ironing a button-up shirt:
-
Set up your ironing board and iron: Make sure the ironing board is stable and the iron is plugged in and at the appropriate heat setting for the fabric of your shirt.
-
Pre-treat any stains: If your shirt has stains, pre-treat them with a stain remover before ironing.
-
Iron the collar: Begin by ironing the collar, starting at the points and working your way inward.
-
Iron the sleeves: Next, move on to the sleeves. Iron the sleeves from the cuff up to the shoulder, being sure to get the undersides of the sleeves as well.
-
Iron the front of the shirt: Unbutton the shirt and lay it flat, starting with the front panels. Iron the panels in a smooth, back-and-forth motion, being careful not to over-iron or scorch the fabric.
-
Iron the back of the shirt: Turn the shirt over and repeat the process on the back panels.
-
Iron the cuffs and placket: Finally, iron the cuffs and the placket (the strip of fabric that covers the buttons and buttonholes).
-
Hang the shirt: Once you're finished ironing, hang the shirt up or fold it neatly and put it away.
Remember to always follow the care instructions on your shirt, and be sure to use the appropriate heat setting for the fabric. Avoid ironing over buttons or embellishments, as these may melt or become damaged.
